Raise your hand if you are looking forward to candy-crazy kids this Halloween! I didn’t think so. Candy on Halloween is an unavoidable situation. Between school parties and trick or treating, you could probably open your own candy store with the amount kids seem to collect. But Halloween doesn’t have to be all about the candy.

Why Healthy Halloween Snacks Work

Halloween comes with plenty of sugar, so it’s no surprise parents, teachers, and party hosts appreciate having healthy options that are still fun and festive. After all, these snacks aren’t about skipping the treats—they’re about giving kids more ways to play with food and fuel up for the big night.

Plus, healthy Halloween recipes are colorful, interactive, and make any party table pop. Even better, they’re a great way to get kids in the kitchen. Let them make monster faces, assemble veggie skeletons, or dip their own fruit pops. In the end, half the fun is in the creating—and the eating is just a sweet bonus.

25 Healthy Halloween Treats for Kids

Before sending your kids out trick-or-treating, treat them to a fun, spooky and delicious Halloween snack board to help fill them up before their bags (and bellies) are filled with candy!

Overhead of Halloween snack board

Every year we have our family and friends over before the kids head out for trick-or-treating on Halloween. We all make snacks for everyone to enjoy and take the time catch up on how everyone is doing. My goal is always to make something that is not only delicious, but healthy. Because come on, let’s be honest, the kids (okay, us adults probably too) are going to eat more than our fair share of candy over the next few days.

Our family doesn’t need a holiday to enjoy a snack board, although it does make things more fun when we can make festive treats! So, this Halloween I decided that we would all get a little creative in the kitchen and create a fun Halloween Snack Board. Since I have a love for making snack boards and everyone seems to enjoy them, I am thinking I will be making one next year too 😉

Close-up of Halloween snack board with healthy treats.

We pulled together a few of our favorite Halloween snacks, like these Taco-Stuffed Mini Pepper Mummies and Apple Monsters for the start of our Halloween-themed snack board. Then we filled in the rest with fruit and veggies (and some help from these fun candy eyes!).

The fun thing about making a Halloween snack board is that a few candy eyes, plastic spiders, cob webs, and a mummy or two go a long way! You can buy all of those online, but also keep a look out in the dollar section of your favorite retailer, I swear Halloween decor starts coming out in August now-a-days!

Charli had fun turning peanut butter and celery into creepy snacks by adding candy eyes, while Mia used guacamole, blue corn chips and some tiny pieces of bell pepper strips to make guacamole bats.

Best Halloween Snack Board with fruits and veggies.

To make your snack board extra Halloweeny, I recommend using fruits and veggies that fit the theme! Think of produce that are naturally black, green and orange and arrange those around your board. Toss on those candy eyes to make them extra spooky.

  • Blackberries
  • Yellow and orange pepper slices
  • Purple and green grapes
  • Green and red apples
  • Olives
  • Celery
  • Guacamole – Not only is it delicious, but it’s green!
  • Hummus – Add some black olive slices to make little “bats”
  • Fruit Dip – Fruit dips are always a welcome addition on any snack board, a simple cream cheese fruit dip is white and ghostly while a drop or two of red food coloring could make it extra eerie.

Commonly Asked Questions About our Perfect Kid-Friendly Halloween Snack Board

Q: What are some good fruits and veggies to include on a Halloween snack board?
A: Recommended produce includes blackberries, yellow and orange pepper slices, purple and green grapes, green and red apples, olives, and celery.

A: Suggested dips are guacamole (for its green color), hummus (can add olive “bats”), and a cream cheese or colored fruit dip.

Q: How can you make the snacks on the board look spooky or Halloween-themed?
A: Use candy eyes to make fruits and veggies look like monsters, make mummies out of taco-stuffed peppers, cut cheese into Halloween shapes, and arrange foods in a creepy/spooky design.

Q: What are some healthy snack ideas included on this Halloween board?
A: Some of the healthier options are celery with peanut butter, apple monsters, hummus, fresh fruits like grapes and apple slices, and veggies like pepper strips.

Q: Are there any treats or candies incorporated too?
A: Yes, there are some fun treats like candy corn, yogurt pretzels, and other crackers or snacks added in as well.

Q: Why make a snack board before trick-or-treating?
A: Having a snack board lets kids fill up on some nutritious foods before they consume a lot of candy from trick-or-treating later.

The key benefits mentioned are getting kids to eat some fresh fruits, veggies, protein and healthy fats/dips before their candy haul, while still making it a festive, fun experience with the Halloween-themed foods and décor on the board.

Quarter the apples and cut a wedge into the skin side for your mouth. Dip the top of the apple into a little honey so the grated coconut “hair” will stick. Spread peanut butter in the mouth and arrange your marshmallow “teeth” and add a strawberry or kiwi “tongue”. Cut your jumbo marshmallows in half for “eyes” and stick a chocolate chip in them.

Halloween treats that aren't candy

JAZZ Spooky Caramel Apples

What’s better than a JAZZ apple coated in caramel? An apple dipped in caramel and chocolate sprinkles, and decorated with chocolate spider webs! For this Halloween treat you will need apples, skewers, melted caramel candies, chocolate candy melts, chocolate sprinkles, and M&M’s.

Melt your caramel candies in a saucepan and dip your apples in, use a spoon to coat the apples evenly. Once they are coated, let them harden in the fridge while you melt the chocolate for your spider webs. Pour some melted chocolate on the bottom of your apples and dip them in chocolate sprinkles. Once the candy melts, put it in a piping bag and make spider web designs on the apples. Add an M&M for a spider and use the melted chocolate to make spider legs.

Place these spooky caramel apples into the fridge until you are ready for serving. These would be a great party favor for a Halloween party, or even for handing out to trick-or-treaters if you have a lot of apples on hand.

Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel to the 1993 movie will be available to stream on Disney+ on September 30, 2022.If you’re throwing a Hocus Pocus Viewing Party or Halloween party, we have the perfect Hocus Pocus Snack Board for you. It’s not even hard to make…no magic required!

hocus pocus charcuterie board

I was only 13 in 1993 and obsessed with all things Halloween (I still am really). 1993 was the year the original Hocus Pocus movie debuted featuring the legendary Sanderson sisters witch trio. This movie and its characters have become a cult classic, and generations of kids are still enjoying the 30-year-old film.

And now all of us who fell in love with the movie and its characters finally get a sequel! Have you seen the trailer yet? Check it out! Watch the Hocus Pocus 2 Movie Trailer. To say I’m excited is an understatement. Coming this spooky season, the Sanderson sisters are back to put another spell on us. I don’t really know what to expect, but I’m just here for more of the nostalgia than the cinematic acclaim.

I’m already thinking about how we will celebrate the movie debut and what snacks we’ll be making. I love making food boards (Go check out my other Halloween Snack board)  and if I have a theme, I love it even more. That’s why I had to make a Hocus Pocus board with the focal point being none other than the Hocus Pocus witch and their iconic hairstyles.

how to make a hocus pocus charcuterie board

I promise you can make this at home. It’s delicious and your family and friends will be thrilled. Even better, have your kids help out. It’s fun to make and eat. You can have this Hocus Board Snack Board ready to enjoy in just 25 minutes or less.

The key ingredient for this board is the faces of the witches, which we made with three brie rounds, white cubed cheddar cheese, blackberries, and chorizo. I originally bought salami for Winnie Sanderson’s hair, but then realized it was too light and had to run back to the store for the chorizo, which is a darker red. Pepperoni could be a good alternative as well.

best halloween charcuterie board

After I created the faces of the witches, I used red and green grapes, black olives with candy eyeballs, and crackers to fill in the space. I thinly sliced the strawberries to give a creepy feel.

I cannot express the impact of candy eyeballs on a Halloween board! On this board I popped them into the black olives and used them around the board. I love buying an abundance of candy eyeballs around Halloween so I can add them to snacks, lunchboxes, and snack boards throughout spooky season!

Because you have three rounds of brie, I would advise a second plate with additional crackers and more spread. One of the cauldrons contains raspberry spread to use on the crackers with the brie. The other I filled with candy gummy worms, but could also be used for a spread.

easy halloween charcuterie board

The mandarin pumpkins are always a hit at Halloween and easy to make. Peel your mandarin and use a small stick of celery as the stem.

I like to use Halloween sprinkles around the board for added flair. These sprinkles I found on Amazon.

I also found the mini cauldrons, brooms, and witch hats plus the Hocus Pocus sign and signature hair toothpicks on Amazon. If you don’t have time to get the fun accessories, don’t worry your board will still put on a spell on your guests with the themed edible brie witches.

The spooky board I used is from Home Goods. This time of year, you’ll find a plethora of Halloween themed boards at most stores. But if you don’t have a spooky board use a cutting board or tray you already have at home.

And remember, don’t put too much pressure on yourself when creating this board… It’s all a bunch of Hocus Pocus after all. The most important part is making memories!

Ingredients

  • 3 Brie rounds
  • Chorizo
  • White Cheddar Cubes
  • Blackberries
  • Strawberries
  • Assorted crackers
  • Red & Green Grapes
  • Black Olives
  • Mandarins We used two
  • Celery Sticks For mandarin pumpkin stems
  • Yellow Cheddar cut into pumpkin cheese shapes
  • Candy eyeballs
  • Candy worms

  • Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  • Add brie rounds to board. Cut olives and strawberries slices in the shape of eye slits and lips. Top each brie with 2 olive pieces and a strawberry piece.
  • Roll multiple chorizo slices and slice in half. Place above one of the brie rounds to serve as Winnifred's hair. Position your chorizo rounds in two triangle shapes to mimic Winnifred's hair style.
  • Place cubed cheese above and on top of another brie round to look like Sarah's hair. Fill any gaps with extra cheese cubes.

  • Add finishing touches to your board by filling in gaps or space that needs color with gummy worms, Halloween sprinkles and candy eyeballs.

These Halloween Popsicles are spooky and easy to make! Made with just 3 simple ingredients and prepped in just minutes, they are the perfect Halloween treat. While this post is sponsored by Florida Milk, our love for Halloween and treats is our own.

Spooky Easy Halloween Popsicles over an ice tray.

The Halloween season is upon on! Can you believe it?! We love Halloween, in fact, I have already started decorating. Little by little though so that my husband doesn’t notice it all at once 😉 Anyone else have bins of Halloween fun that they can’t wait to take out every year? Halloween is the time for haunted houses, Trick-or-Treating, Halloween parties, and Halloween treats. We love hosting Halloween parties because they give everyone the chance to dress up in Halloween costumes, make Halloween-themed eats and treats, and have a good time with family and friends. In our neighborhood, Halloween is a fun holiday for children and adults!

Are you planning your Halloween menu? Well, let me help! We just made the easiest, most delicious Halloween popsicles ever!

Chocolate-flavored Halloween popsicles with theme sprinkles.

And when I say that they were easy to make, I’m not joking…the main ingredient is chocolate milk.

Pouring chocolate milk to make popsicles.

Yes, that’s it! It’s the perfect main ingredient too, since chocolate milk is the official drink of Halloween.

Plus, you can feel good about serving these Spooky Halloween popsicles to your friends and family because while they are a sweet treat, they are also nutritious.

Making chocolate milk popsicles.

Did you know that chocolate milk delivers 13 essential nutrients? Each serving of chocolate milk has 8 grams of high-quality protein, including calcium, vitamin D and phosphorus. So when you serve these chocolate milk Halloween popsicles you can feel good knowing that you are serving a spooky, yet nutritious Halloween treat.

Ingredients for chocolate milk Halloween popsicles.

Halloween Popsicles Key Ingredients

  • Chocolate Milk
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Halloween Sprinkles

We melted the chocolate chips so that we could dip our chocolate milk popsicles into it for an extra chocolatey treat, and we, of course, had to add in Halloween sprinkles!

Pro Tips For Decorating Halloween Popsicles

  • Double boiler method to melt the chocolate is the best way to melt chocolate.
  • Adding a cap full of canola oil will keep the chocolate smooth.
  • Don’t melt the chocolate until the popsicles are fully frozen and ready.
  • Use spatula to drizzle chocolate on the top of the popsicles, covering around ⅓ of the way down. Do not dip the popsicles into the chocolate, this will cause all of the chocolate to harden.
  • Use Halloween sprinkles! I got mine at Michael’s, but I have seen them at Walmart and Target too.
  • When serving, be sure to have ice on the platter to keep your Halloween popsicles from melting.
Skull tray full of ice

Be sure to serve up your Spooky Chocolate Milk Popsicles on a fun Halloween platter (I got mine at Home Goods, but they have a lot of options on Amazon too) and don’t forget the plastic spiders! You can find plastic spiders just about anywhere this time of year, but I got a few bags at the dollar store. Place the spiders on the table for that extra added spooky effect! If you put them directly on the platter, be sure that everyone knows they aren’t edible 😉

Boiling water for melting chocolate

Do you have to use the double broiler method to melt the chocolate?

I will be honest, I was slow to getting on the double-broiler train, but it really is the best way to melt chocolate. You are using indirect heat to melt the chocolate, which helps prevent over-cooking the chocolate. When chocolate is overcooked it gets hard and lumpy. Definitely not ideal for decorating our Halloween popsicles. We didn’t test this recipe using melting chocolates in the microwave, but if you try it, let us know how it turns out!

Melting Chocolate using Double Broiler Method

How to melt chocolate using a double broiler

  • Place a saucepan on the stove and add 1-2 inches of water to the pan.
  • Place a heat-safe mixing bowl over the saucepan. Make sure that it fits well so that the steam is trapped in.
  • Add the chocolate chips to the bowl.
  • Turn the stove onto medium heat, as the water starts to warm up, it will steam. The steam will start to melt the chocolate.
  • Continuously stir with a heat-safe rubber spatula or wooden spoon until all of the chocolate has melted.
Melting Chocolate for decorating popsicles

It may seem like using the double broiler method for melting the chocolate chips is more time consuming, but I promise you, it’s 100% worth it!

Tasty Halloween popsicles on a metal tray.

Now that you have your Spooky Halloween Popsicles ready for your Halloween parties, here are a few other things you will want to make sure you have ready for your Halloween parties:

Decorations

You can either buy or make decorations. If you decide to make them, have the kids help! Drape furniture with sheets to give it a haunted house feel. Dim the lights and use electric and battery operated candles. Trace bats on paper and have the kids help cut them out. These can be hung on windows or from the ceiling. The spooky possibilities are endless!

Don’t forget the music

Find a cheap CD at the dollar store (yes, they still make CDs) or have the kids make a Halloween playlist and be sure to have it playing as guests arrive.

Halloween Popsicles

Halloween Themed Food

Here are a few options to serve up along with your Halloween Popsicles:

Games And Activities

Having games and activities for you guests will make your party even more fun. Host a costume contest and have small prizes for the cutest, scariest, etc. costumes. If you can buy a bunch of pumpkins, having a pumpkin carving contest can also be a lot of fun. You can find lots of Halloween Party Games on Pinterest too.

Have you been Boo’d? What do you do now? Here are some fun and easy Halloween You’ve Been Booed Ideas to spread some Halloween fun this season. While this post is sponsored by Crispy Green Crispy Fruit, our love of Halloween, being Boo’d and healthier snacks are our own.

Easy Halloween You've Been Booed Ideas

Halloween is time for decorating, trick-or-treating, having fun with family and friends, and BOO-ing! Does your neighborhood BOO each other? Not familiar with being BOO’D? Booing is mysteriously dropping a special treat at the home of a friend or neighbor. It’s a fun way to get in the Halloween spirit and spread a little happiness. Because, let’s be honest, couldn’t everyone use a little extra happiness now-a-days? Especially when it’s delivered right to your front door!

Halloween You've Been Booed Ideas

What exactly does it mean if you’ve been BOOED?

You’ve Been Boo’d means that a friend or neighbor made a little Halloween gift bag/basket/box and delivered it to your door without letting you know. So, when you get home from work or school, or when you head out to the get the mail, you are greeted with a surprise Halloween treat.

You've Been Booed Ideas

When should you BOO a neighbor or friend?

You’ve been Boo’d traditionally starts in late September and goes all the way through to Halloween. This fun tradition dates back to the early 1980s here in the United States but now happens all over the world!

What does it mean to be Boo'd

How to Boo friend or neighbor

To BOO your friend or neighbor this Halloween season choose a decorated bag, or decorate one with Halloween or fall decor. You can make these or buy them. We found some on Amazon that were super cute and really affordable, so we went the easy route 😉 Our Halloween Boo Set includes 52 pieces of cards and strings with candy box set. This has 48 different design styles, each style comes with 1 paper box, 12 you`been booed double-sided printed tags with “we’ve been booed” printed at back, with colored strings. The box measures 3 x 5.25 x 11.25 inches. They are the perfect size for adding in some sweet treats, Crispy Green Snacks, Halloween pencils and even a little Halloween coloring book.

Boo'd Baskets for Halloween

My daughter likes to BOO everyone. Which, is great, but that’s why I like this set….the box is a little smaller, but there are a lot of them! That means we are able fill more You’ve Been Boo’d boxes and spread more Halloween fun without spending a fortune. Every Boo bag must include a sign that the recipient can hang in the window or door to let everyone know they’ve already been Boo’d. If you don’t get the set I mentioned above, you can make one, but you do need to include that cute sign! That sign let’s other’s know you have been Boo’d, so they can BOO someone else.

Halloween door sign decoration

The BOO bags should also include some Halloween instructions (which is included in the set we bought, again, I was going for easy!). If you choose to make yours, these are the things that should be included:

  • Let them know that they have been Boo’d.
  • That they are to choose a friend or two to Boo.
  • That they need to include treats, notes and a sign in each bag so that more and more people can be Boo’d.
  • Remind them that they should be sneaky when leaving it at their friends’ doors.

If you choose to make your own Halloween Boo Bags/Boxes, here are a few tips:

Consider using a reusable container, think of those cheap dollar plastic pumpkins or that Trick or Treat basket I used or even small Halloween treat bags. This way, each Boo recipient can simply refill the container and pass it along to the next friend. Most stores will have a container that can be used as is. However, if you or the kids are crafty, feel free to get creative and make them even more festive.

Putting together Boo'd Baskets for Halloween gifts

Treats Ideas for You’ve Been Boo’d Bags & Baskets

Halloween is filled with lots and lots of candy. So, when it comes to Boo-ing our friends and neighbors, I actually try to limit that. I mean, isn’t everyone’s house going to have more candy than they can possible consume by the end of the month? That’s why our You’ve Been Boo’d Bags have Crispy Green Snacks, Halloween pencils, that fun coloring book, and only a few pieces of candy. Crispy Green Crispy Fruit is 100% fruit. It’s freeze-dried deliciousness that you can feel good about giving your neighbors (and family!) this Halloween season….and beyond! They are the perfect healthy grab n’ go snack for your You’ve Been Boo’d bags. In fact, my daughter takes a bag of Crispy Fruit with her to school every day, it travels better with her than a whole banana…bruises less too 😉

These apple cheddar quesadillas are the perfect sweet and savory combo. They’re so easy to make and are perfect for a quick snack or to serve alongside a vegetable for dinner.

What I love most about quesadillas is that you really can’t go wrong with the filling. I open the fridge, check out what leftovers are available, and start assembling.

After making ham, cheddar, and Autumn Glory apple empanadas last year and loving them, I knew I had to try that combo in a quesadilla.

But why stop there?! Check out these 6 quesadilla combos featuring Autumn Glory Apples. These quesadillas are so tasty and packed with healthy ingredients.

Autumn Glory apples have a sweet taste with hints of cinnamon and caramel. They work well in sweet and savory dishes so the possibilities are truly endless! Not to mention, these quesadillas are ready in no time making them perfect for busy school nights.

If you want to go the extra mile, stock up on edible markers and have fun creating cool designs with your kids. I’ve been obsessed with Harry Potter for years now! My aunt Leslie recently surprised me with a really fun Hogwarts map stencil that she made using her Cricut. No cricut? Check out some fun premade stencils on Amazon.

Make sure to visit SuperfreshGrowers.com to learn more about Autumn Glory apples and look for them in a grocery store near you.
